Attractions at Yosemite National Park
The Oakhurst Lodge staff is friendly, well-trained and very familiar with the surrounding area. Allow them to assist with reservations, and activity suggestions that suit your interest and ability. Ask about area annual events and make plans to return and attend!
Plan to stay a couple of days or weeks. Learn to fly fish , water ski or just rent a boat at beautiful Bass Lake. Take a picnic and ride the Yosemite Mountain Sugar Pine Railroad , or hike in one of the giant Mariposa Sequoia groves. For the adventurous in spirit take climbing lessons in Yosemite or traverse some of the best mountain hiking trails on the continent.
Our relaxed visitors are invited to shop our local businesses or golf at one of the three golf courses. Visit Fresno Flats and the Children's Museum which are located right in Oakhurst.
For our winter guests there's ice skating, cross country and downhill skiing, snowshoeing, snowboarding, snowmobiling and much more! Oakhurst lodge is ideally located for all of your Yosemite Park vacations. Our staff is happy to assist with your activity planning. Visit our area each season and relive the Yosemite experience!
Other Area Activities
Pan for gold, ride the Logger or hitch a ride on the Jenny Railcars of the Yosemite Mountain Sugar Pine Railroad, and other California gold country tourist sites.
Tantalize your tastebuds with a tour of one of several local wineries - Ask at our front desk for a copy of the 2003 YSVB Guide which includes a Madera Vintners wine tour map.
Visit the Wassama Roundhouse, in Ahwahnee this ceremonial Indian house where tribes still celebrate spiritual traditions is one of only two roundhouses still standing in the state today & includes a cemetery, early housing, sweathouse and grinding areas of the local Miwok Indians.
A short drive takes you to North Fork - The Exact Center of California and home to the Sierra Mono Museum . This museum includes a myriad of grinding stones, baskets & crafts of the local Mono tribes as well as a broad display of local wildlife and a walking trail which includes uses of many local plants within the Mono culture.
The Famous Talking Bear, is located directly across the street from Oakhurst Lodge. This historic landmark at the intersection of Highway 41 and Road 426, is a stone replica of a bear and "talks" about the California Grizzly while promoting respect for the forest and wildlife.
Take a cruise on the Bass Lake Queen, a paddle boat which cruises the lake all summer long - you may even see the lake princess.
Water vehicle rentals are available at both Ducey's at Pines Village as well as Miller's landing, five-man bananas, tubes, wakeboards, skis, party barges & more are available to enhance your enjoyment while spending the day at the lake.
See a Melodrama - not many California cities can boast a melodrama theatre & we have have one of the finest - Starting it's 36th season in March 2003 the Golden Chain Theatre is a fun filled knee-slapping event for EVERY member of your party... If you've never experienced melodrama - now is the time to do so!
